In this weeks episode of Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee, we are treated to a 1967 Volvo 1800S, wheat puffs, a cronut, and Tina FeyJust not necessarily in that order.
Sensible but fun, is Jerry Seinfeld's description for both Tina Fey and the 1967 Volvo 1800S they drive to get coffee in. Yes, it is not often that Volvo has been compared with fun, but in 1961, Volvo took a second stab at making a sport car, and you know what... it turned out brilliantly.
The P1800 was Volvo's first sexy car. However, due to a few quality issues, they would eventually make a few changes in production, and the result was the Volvo 1800S. Incidentally, the S in the name fundamentally stood for Sweden, which is a term that we have also come to know with quality built automobiles.
It 1800's came with your choice of flavors, which in the 1960's equated to either a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder or a 2.0-liter. However, whichever way you went, you were really only looking at about 18 horsepower difference. In 1967, the base engine was good for 115 horsepower and a top speed of 109 mph.
One thing that the 1800's are known for is an amazing longevity, which would explain why parts for this car are still very easy to come by, even today. It is not uncommon for one of these engines to pass the three million mile mark, and still be in drivable condition. Some have even said that these engines are unburstable, meaning that they tend to breakdown slowly, rather than have an all-out blowout.
However, enough about the car, as this episode also features the talented Tina Fey, who you will be surprised to find out does not have an automobile license and does not own a car. During her lunch date with Seinfeld in New York, we are treated to many firsts, including a drink made of Wheat Puffs, a donut called a Cronut, and we also discover that in Fey's household she is in charge of all the feces.
